Last updated on July 25, 2023
Heads up! After nearly six years since its pilot release, the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner CLF-C01 exam is undergoing a long-awaited revamp. The AWS Training and Certification team is introducing a fresh and updated version of the exam, which, naturally, will be called the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner CLF-C02 exam.
The last date that you can take the CLF-C01 exam version is on September 18, 2023. Meanwhile, you can take the new AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner CLF-C02 exam version beginning on September 19, 2023. You can start registering for this new exam version on August 22, 2023.
If I pass the CLF-C01 exam before September 18, 2023, will my certification remain active, or do I have to take the new version to keep my credentials?
No, it is not necessary to take the new version of the exam to renew your AWS Cloud Practitioner certification. If you successfully pass the CLF-C01 exam before its retirement, the certification and digital badge you receive upon passing will remain valid for a period of three years.
The New AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner CLF-C02 Exam Domains
The new CLF-C02 exam domains aren’t too different from the original exam version. The first two domains: (1) Cloud Concepts and (2) Security and Compliance, are still the same. However, there have been adjustments in the weight assigned to each. In the CLF-C01 version, the Cloud Concepts exam domain has a weight of 26%, while Security and Compliance has a weight of 25%, but in the new CLF-C02 exam version, the Cloud Concepts domain will now make up only 24% of the exam weight, while the Security and Compliance domain has now a whopping 30% of the exam coverage.
On the other hand, the last two domains in the original CLF-C01 exam have been renamed into (1) Cloud Technology and Services and (2) Billing, Pricing, and Support in the new CLF-C02 version.
What are the Specific Changes in the CLF-C02 Exam Domains?
Domain 1 – Cloud Concepts
Domain 1 of the CLF-C02 exam now encompasses the process of leveraging the AWS Cloud to drive business outcomes, which is facilitated by the AWS Cloud Adoption Framework (AWS CAF). Recently updated in 2021, this framework offers comprehensive and step-by-step guidance for digitally transforming your business and achieving accelerated outcomes using AWS. With AWS CAF, you can identify and prioritize transformation opportunities, assess and enhance your readiness for the cloud, and iteratively develop a roadmap for successful transformation.
Domain 2 – Security and Compliance
Domain 2 of the CLF-C02 exam has been expanded to encompass higher-level governance practices for managing AWS resources. With the increasing number of AWS services now incorporating governance features, there are new options available to centralize governance and effectively manage and govern AWS resources at scale
Domain 3 – Cloud Technology and Services
To provide better guidance for exam candidates, Domain 3 has been restructured into specific topics, offering a clear direction for exam preparation. Previously, this domain covered multiple broad topics, which posed challenges for candidates in determining where to focus their efforts. The domain has now been divided into the following topics: compute (3.3), database (3.4), network (3.5), storage (3.6), AI/ML (3.7), and other (3.8). The exam guide includes knowledge and skill statements for each of these topics, aiding candidates in their preparation.
Domain 4 – Billing, Pricing, and Support
To enhance clarity for candidates, Domain 4 has been restructured to consolidate various topic related to support. Previously, support-related aspects were dispersed across various domains, creating complexity. With the updated structure, candidates can better comprehend the content related to support within Domain 4.
