Have you ever considered obtaining a cloud certification but are unsure of the first steps or where to begin? Let me help you increase your chances of passing your AWS, Azure, and GCP exams with these review strategies.
Embarking on a new journey can be daunting, especially when starting out. However, in this article, I will discuss how I started my path toward obtaining cloud certifications by sharing my studying and reviewing strategies.
To begin, let me introduce myself. My name is Amiel, and I work as a Cloud and DevOps Engineer. I have been fortunate enough to earn six AWS certifications and one Azure certification. I’m not saying this to boast, but I am grateful that I was able to pass all of these exams on my first attempt. I firmly believe that adequate preparation prior to taking any certification exam can greatly enhance one’s chances of success.

Each individual has their own unique pace for exam preparation. The review strategies that I am about to discuss were successful for me, but there is no guarantee that they will work for everyone. Nonetheless, I hope that this information can assist you in discovering your own pace and getting started with your review.
Let’s start.
Watch Video Tutorials
For every certification exam, I commence my review process by viewing video tutorials that are specifically related to the certification I intend to pursue. You may wonder, “Amiel, with so many video tutorials available, how can I select which ones to watch?” To answer the question, I look for video tutorials that have:
-
Clear, theoretical explanations.
-
A hands-on lab that I can follow.
-
A provided sandbox environment that I can use to practice (this is optional, but a huge plus point).
I truly believe that getting your hands dirty really is the best way to learn.
Tutorials Dojo provides video courses that meet all of the necessary criteria:
Video Course Collection – Tutorials Dojo
Personally, I appreciated the inclusion of PlayCloud Hands-On Labs in Tutorials Dojo’s offerings as it provides a sandbox environment that allows me to immediately practice what I had just learned.
Read Official Exam Guides
Following a period of watching video tutorials, I typically skim through the official exam guide for the certification exam that I plan to take. This allows me to identify any gaps in my knowledge, such as unfamiliarity with a particular cloud service.
Read eBooks
The eBooks offered by Tutorials Dojo were particularly useful in helping me get familiar with the topics that were relevant to the certification exam.

Do Practice Exams
When preparing for any certification exam, I allocate a significant amount of time to practicing through practice exams, specifically those provided by Tutorials Dojo. Based on my experience, the questions presented in these exams are comparable in quality to those in the actual exam, and the explanations offered are thorough and include references and cheat sheets.

Tutorials Dojo practice exams offer different types of modes:
-
Timed Mode – simulates the actual AWS exam, which contains a total of 75 multiple-choice and multiple-answer questions to be completed within 3 hours (180 minutes).
-
Review Mode – contains multiple-choice and multiple-answer questions from the set’s question bank. There is no time limit for the review mode. After answering each question, you can view the answer immediately by clicking the Check button.
-
Section-Based – Each set in this section contains questions about a specific domain.
There is no time limit for the section-based mode. After answering each question, you can view the answer straight away by clicking the Check button.
-
Final Test – This practice test simulates the actual AWS exam, which contains a total of 75 multiple-choice and multiple-answer questions, which were randomly pulled from the entire question bank of the course, to be completed within 3 hours (180 minutes).
-
Flashcards – a bonus section where you can see a collection of flashcards. These are carefully selected diagrams, tables, and screenshots which can help you retain the important topic.
How Do I Maximize Tutorials Dojo Practice Exams Value
-
To assess my preparedness for the exam and identify any gaps in knowledge, I typically begin by utilizing the Review Mode and Section-Based tests.
-
After I have developed some level of confidence, I proceed to simulate the actual exam through Timed Mode tests. Personally, I aim to achieve a score of at least 90% on these tests.
-
A few days prior to the actual exam, I make it a point to go through the Final Test, which generates a complete set of questions randomly selected from the entire question bank. This approach helps to prevent the memorization of answers from previously answered sets.
-
I recommend utilizing supplementary resources such as bonus flashcards, cheat sheets, exam study guides, and eBooks.
