Amazon Q is an AI assistant that’s designed to be generative, meaning it can generate content, solve problems, and perform tasks using the data and expertise within your company.

Use Cases

Amazon Q is designed to provide quick and relevant answers to questions, streamline tasks, speed up decision-making, and foster creativity and innovation at work.

• Business Insights: With QuickSight integration, Q can combine unstructured (docs) + structured data (dashboards / databases) to answer questions like “What’s our revenue trend + narrative?”.

• Customer Service: In Amazon Connect, Q can detect customer intent and recommend or generate responses during live chats or voice calls.



• Supply Chain: Q integrates with AWS Supply Chain to analyze data (like stock risks) and give operational/financial insights.

• Generative BI: Using Q in QuickSight can automate narrative summaries, build visual dashboards, and let non-technical users ask data questions in natural language.

Types

• Amazon Q Business: This version of Amazon Q can be customized to your business by connecting it to your company’s data, information, and systems.
• Amazon Q Developer: This version provides Amazon Q expertise for building on AWS.

  • Q in QuickSight: Generative BI for data dashboards.

  • Q in Connect: For chat/voice in customer service.

Security 

• Amazon Q uses AWS Identity Center / IAM for authentication & authorization.

• It supports IAM federation so you can reuse your existing identity provider.

• Data used in Q (prompts, responses) remains private to your account; AWS does not use your data to train models for others.

• For indexing, Q charges for index capacity even if you don’t use it; if you delete the index, billing stops.

Sub-modules

• Amazon QuickSight: Amazon Q integrates with Amazon QuickSight to help generate visuals, dashboards, and data-driven stories.
• Amazon Connect: Amazon Q works with Amazon Connect to improve customer service by automatically detecting customer intent during calls and chats.
• AWS Supply Chain: Amazon Q can be used in the AWS Supply Chain to provide deeper insights into stock-out or overstock risks.
